Day 286 - Why Overcoming Grief is Essential to Moving Forward in Life

Finding Your Creative Bones® 365-Day Devotional © 2023

Overcoming grief is essential to a happy life.

But it is our desire, brothers, that you may be certain about those who are sleeping; so that you may have no need for sorrow, as others have who are without hope.
For if we have faith that Jesus underwent death and came back again, even so those who are sleeping will come again with him by God's power. (1 Thessalonians 4.13-14 Bible in Basic English (BBE))

Grief can be a tremendous burden for us to carry. It can affect every aspect of your life. The sorrow can be debilitating, but we have to overcome it. When we cannot, we run the risk of grief, overcoming our lives with negativity and evil.

Perhaps remembering that all who believed and now "sleep" will be raised first when Jesus comes will relieve you. Then, all who are alive will join them with the Lord. We will all, those asleep and those still on earth who believe will join the Lord.

You will meet all you love again. Overcoming your grief is essential. Use the love of God to become confident in the future. God loves you, and he would never want you to suffer an eternity or at all, thinking you will never see your loved ones again. He loves you so much, and he loves all who have fallen "asleep". He, too, will be joyful on the day the trumpets sound the arrival of Jesus.

You may never wholly get over the loss of a loved one.

You go on because you have to.

The ache reminds you of their love and yours for them.

In that sense, maybe it is good that we never forget our loss.

It serves as a bittersweet reminder of how it felt

to love another, to be so dearly loved, and

how much we will be loved when our paths cross again.

It reminds us that the future is glorious.

All that is required is faith and patience.

Prayer:

Loving Lord, you know my heart and the ache of loss I continue to feel. Help me soothe the pain of grief with proper understanding and acceptance that those I love are not lost forever. They sleep and wait for you and us to join them. When they wake, and you join us, we will share our love again. Help me remember this and anticipate this rather than grieve. Grief wastes precious time on earth and can become a weapon against me if I am not careful. Save me and all who suffer from the enemy that grief can release. In Jesus name, I pray. Amen
