Your language and the judgment it can bring are serious.
And I say to you that in the day when they are judged, men will have to give an account of every foolish word they have said. For by your words will your righteousness be seen, and by your words you will be judged. (Matthew 12.36-37 Bible in Basic English (BBE))
As a child, our parents ask us to watch what we say, that our words are important, and that words can be kind or mean. Did they also tell us about minding our words and thoughts regarding God?
Possibly... Every family and situation differs, so we no doubt hear different perspectives.
No matter what we learn, we must act on what we know and believe. If you didn't know before that your words matter, you do now.
Can you live up to that? What do you need to change? With God, you have the power to change. You can defeat the problem, not be defeated by it. Taking one small step every day will make a difference.
Prayer:
Lord, there are times I say God, and it isn't in the way I mean. For the most part, it is a cry for help in some way, but it might not be worded how it should be. I sincerely apologize. Forgive my slips. I hope you know that I meant no disrespect. I know that my language and the judgment it can bring are serious and potentially severe. I will continue to try to grow in my speech and thought. When I fail, I will apologize and know I must continue working on myself. I respect you, Lord, and I love you. When I reach Heaven, I hope I have little to account for related to my words. I would ask for help with my words, but I feel this is most likely up to me to conquer, but perhaps the Holy Spirit can make me wiser in this area. I would appreciate any help you can give. Amen.
